MAN WHO WROTE S'PORE PLEDGE DIES


Former Deputy Prime Minister S. Rajaratnam, one of Singapore's founding fathers, has died.

1915 - 2006




  • Mr S Rajaratnam was one of the founding members of the PAP in 1954.
  • He served as Kampong Glam MP and Minister(Culture/Foreign/Affairs/Labour) over the years.
  • In 1966, he wrote the national plegde.
  • In 1980, he was Second Deputy Prime Minister (Foreign Affairs).
  • He retired from politics in 1988.
  • Soon after his retirement, his wife, Ms Piroska Feher died of pneumonia in 1989 at age 75.
Flags will fly half-mast from today till Saturday. Mr S Rajaratnam's body will lie in state at Parliament House. The public can visit from 9:30am to 9:00pm tomorrow. He will be given a state funeral on Saturday. It will be held at the Esplanade.
